OVERVIEW
PGIM (Prudential Global Investment Management) is comprised of eight unique and independent companies. The PGIM websites were stylistically inconsistent and dated, and lived on a legacy CMS that made publishing new content difficult.
PGIM enlisted the help of Code + Theory to help develop the design system and build a custom, modern CMS platform for authoring new content.
GOALS
Elevate the PGIM brand to match the level of sophistication of the brand and create a consistent system across all brands.
Decrease time it takes to author content and increase the frequency in which each business published new content.
Increase key metrics including daily unique visitors, Contact Us form submissions, and white paper downloads.

MY ROLE
As Director of Product Design at Prudential, my role was to lead this project and make sure we were working with our agency partner to create a scalable system and platform that solved both the needs of our eight PGIM businesses as well as our target users. I ran workshops with the leadership of each business to make ensure our new website would be able to support their business goals, and worked closely with Code + Theory to identify solutions to fill those gaps.
CHALLENGES
Stakeholder Alignment
There were a LOT of stakeholders involved in this project. Between internal Prudential COE’s, the eight unique PGIM leadership teams, and our agency partner, I needed to constantly be focused on communication and building alignment. I needed to generate excitement for and understanding of our new CMS, while maintaining focus on building solutions for our end users.
Many of our stakeholders were also used to creating custom widgets or even entire experiences whenever they wanted to. We needed to maintain the integrity of the design system, while empowering each business to create high impact experiences when needed.
Attestation
Attestation is required for websites like the PGIM sites that include information that is to be viewed only by financial professionals. The attestation flow was complex and annoying, and we needed to find a way to allow our users to easily attest to the correct permissions to see the correct content.
Global Approach
PGIM is a global business, and one of the eight PGIM sites we needed to redesign was for PGIM Japan. Communication barriers and time zone differences made tailoring our new design system more difficult. In addition to our Japanese language site, we needed to add the ability to customize languages for certain sites, and dictate what financial vehicles are viewable by users depending on the country they are working in.
